Working professionals in Vietnam have become more demanding when choosing a workplace due to their diversified career objectives, according to a new survey launched Thursday.

“Employers should focus on many issues rather than solely salary which can never be enough for many,” said Thanh Nguyen, CEO of employer branding solution firm Anphabe that conducted the Best Places to Work survey.

Nguyen said respondents have put less weight on high salaries than in the previous year.

Instead, many now value comfort, affiliation, achievement and challenge, even more than financial rewards.

Unilever beat 348 companies across 24 industries nationwide to take the top title this year as the best place to work in Vietnam.

Local dairy giant Vinamilk was voted the best employer, while Intel and Microsoft respectively won praises for culture and values, and for leadership.

Gender differences

The survey has found differences in career objectives by gender and job level.

For example, female workers prefer “to generate enough cash for enjoyable lifestyle and future financial-free” and “to enjoy variety of exciting experience.”

Meanwhile, male employees wish “to keep moving ahead in corporate ladder” and “to become a respected leader or expert.”

In terms of achieving a healthy work-life balance, the apparel and footwear sector and the energy industry best satisfy employees.

Insurance and energy allow most employees to generate enough cash for an enjoyable lifestyle.

Meanwhile, employees in transport and logistics feel most content with having a secured career.
