Ly Hoang Nam advances at 25th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup Related image(s)
| (CPV) - Top Vietnamese male tennis player Ly Hoang Nam advanced to the third round in the men’s single event and quarter-final round of the double men’s event at the 25th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup in Malaysia on March 18th. As the fourth seed in the championship, the 18 years old athlete automatically passed over the first round, to play with the youth world’s 148th Scott Jones from Australia. He then easily overcame the challenge of Malaysian player, Hao Sheng Koay (17 years old) 6-1 and 6-3 in the next round. In the men’s doubles event, Ly Hoang Nam and Alberto Lim from the Philippines, also automatically passed over the first round being seeded fifth. The two players scored 6-3 and 6-2 victories over William Matheson (New Zealand) and Patrik Rikl (Czech Republic). In the quarter final round, their rivals will be the fourth seed Yuya Ito (Japan) and Tung-lin Wu (Taiwan). This tournament is part of Group I of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the same as the Chang Thailand championships where the Vietnamese star ranked second in the men’s singles event and stopped his challenge in the semi-final round. The current ITF’s ranking list shows Ly Hoang Nam in the 49th position, paving the way for him to compete in the Senior Roland Garros – the second Grand Slam series of the year. After ending the Malaysia tour, the star originally from Tay Ninh province is scheduled to team up with the national squad for Davis Cup, then the Asia youth championship in India (April 13th – 18th), and forthcoming clay court games in Italy in preparations for Roland Garros./. |
