The organizers granted 24 prizes in 12 categories with US$2,000 and US$1,000 for each first and second prize respectively.
Vietnam sent nine teams to the contest and pocketed two prizes, including first prize in the category for UrbanConcept Alternative petrol (gasoline) for LH-Gold Energy from Lac Hong University in Dong Nai Province and second prize in the category for the prototype petrol (gasoline) for CKD-MN10 team from HCMC University of Technology and Education.
“We are so proud to be a winner at Shell Eco-marathon Asia and to bring victory to Vietnam. During the contest, we gained a lot of experience and knowledge to create a vehicle bringing the most efficient solutions,” Le Phuong Long, leader of LH – Gold Energy from Lac Hong University, said in a statement.
Other winners were Clean Diesel team from Japan for the prototype Shell FuelSave Diesel; ITS 2 team from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember from Indonesia for UrbanConcept Shell FuelSave Diesel; NSTRU Eco-Racing team from Thailand’s Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University for the prototype battery electric and UiTM Eco-Sprint team from Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam, Malaysia for the prototype Hydrogen.
Previously, a team from Hanoi University of Technology came in second at SEM ASIA 2012 in the category for the prototype ethanol.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Shell Eco-marathon contest which has been organized in Europe, America and Asia. This is the sixth edition of the contest in Asia with the participation of 120 teams from 17 countries.
