Suspension bridge Nam Cong spans the Day River
NDO – Suspension bridge Nam Cong spanning the Day River in Thanh Tan commune, Thanh Liem district, Ha Nam province was opened to traffic on the morning of February 14.
The bridge replacing the old Nam Cong wharf measures 152m in length and 2m in width is the longest suspension bridge in Vietnam.
The bridge has a total investment of VND13 billion (US$611,000) funded by the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and was completed after four months of construction.
The new bridge will facilitate the transportation of about 1,500 local people including 200 children.
The project is under the Government’s project on building 186 bridges in Northern mountainous provinces, Central and Central Highlands regions.
Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang said that Nam Cong bridge is among nearly 100 bridges under the Government’s project have been inaugurated before the Lunar New Year. The remaining bridges will be completed by June 2015, he added.
