The traditional festivals, renowned scenic spots are the destinations for everyone to travel during the spring and entertain themselves during Tet days. Besides, for this Tet, the tourism enterprises do conduct lots of particular programs to serve customers.
Playing Bai choi during spring days is one of the joy among the elderly. In Phu Yen, the bai choi festival during Tet exists in almost every locality with 9, 11 or 13 huts being erected in an immense area of land. Bai choi festival is one way of performing folk art, at the same time playing as a game bearing particular features of festivals. Bai Choi in Phu Yen has just been honored as the national intangible cultural heritage, together with other central provinces. Da Nong river festival (Dong Hoa district), held on the 8th day of Tet at Da Nong estuary, Tam Giang water and river festival (Song Cau town) is held on a fairly large scale on the 5th and 6th days of Tet with many other activities as net-weaving contest, boat-rowing, coracle-rowing… For the inhabitants of the mountainous districts of Dong Xuan, Son Hoa, Song Hinh and many other localities, Tet days are not less effervescent with lake-or-river-related festivals, which can be seen as “strange features” besides traditional games and festivals of the ethnic compatriots.
Thi Thung mound horse-racing festival, held on the 9th of Tet at Thi Thung mound, An Xuan commune, Tuy An district, is one of the particular festivals that attract a large number of viewers from both inside and outside the province. The racing ground is one immense and flat piece of land on Thi Thung mound. The “jockeys” are young men or village youths who are close to the horses during their daily tasks of carrying goods and the horses, carts have become the powerful and influential one. The racing circles have thousands of spectators shouting, cheering, supporting, which makes the horses move in great gallops, moving faster to reach the target in the great admiration of lots of people.
Other festivals also bear the great features of culture, history, religion during spring days, must-to-see for those either familiar or newcomer to Phu Yen are Nguyen Tieu poetry festival on Nhan mountain, Tuy Hoa city-the longest spring poetry festival all over Vietnam, even before the Vietnam poetry day was introduced. The incense-stick offering festival at Dong Cam Dam and many other festivals like: Luong Van Chanh temple festival, held on February 6th in Hoa Tri commune (Phu Hoa district); Le Thanh Phuong temple festival, held on January 27th and 28th Lunar calendar in An Hiep commune; Da Trang pagoda festival, held on the 10th and 11th of January lunar calendar in Can Luong hamlet, An Dan commune (Tuy An district), “cau ngu” festival from January to August in villages’ pavilions and Ong imperial tomb along Phu Yen coastal localities…
Besides traditional festivals, the particular and thrilling scenic spots of Da Dia Reef, Mon Beach-Dien Cape house, hot streams, nice beaches…will be very exciting destinations for those into learning or having excursions during Tet days.
