Thousands of workers in a company in northern Vietnam have returned their Tet gifts given by their company as they doubted the gifts contained fake products.
On February 13, nearly 8,000 workers at the Tinh Loi 2 Sewing Ltd. Co. in Hai Duong Province gave their Tet gifts back to their company, including cooking oil, fish sauce, and seasoning powder.
Tet, which is the Vietnamese term for the Lunar New Year festival, kicks off on February 19 this year.
According to the workers, after receiving the gifts, they found that the cooking oil bottles’ lids were not wrapped with plastic seals and the lids did not have plastic security covers like normal cooking oil bottles.
“The fish sauce didn’t smell normally, while the cooking oil bottles were not sealed as usual so we doubted that they are fake products and decided to return them,” a worker expressed.

that the company has certificates ensuring product quality and food safety.
“We tried to explain but the workers didn’t listen to us,” he said.
Hoa added the workers may not often use those kinds of fish sauce and cooking oil so they do not want to receive them, meanwhile, they accepted the package of seasoning powder from a well-known producer.
He said the company worked with the seller on the seals of the cooking oil bottles.
“They said that this kind of product was designed that way and confirmed it’s not fake,” Hoa said. “They also agreed to recall the product and refund us if the workers do not like it.”
He added each gift is worth VND120,000 (US$5.59) and the company will give money to those who refuse to get the gifts.
