PANO – For Western tourists, visiting and experiencing Oriental culture during their trip is important because for them, traveling is not only to enjoy the nature and sceneries, but also to explore the country and its people.
Vietnam has become one of their selected destinations because of its long-lasting cultures. In recent years, international tourists have often spent time in exploring Vietnam during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
Impressed with traditional Vietnamese Tet’s custom and ritual
According to Anastasiya Aleshina, a Russian visitor, Vietnam has many beautiful and alluring types of scenery in its four seasons. However, visiting Vietnam as the Lunar New Year is coming gave her and her family more opportunities to explore typical features of the culture of welcoming traditional Tet of Vietnamese people.
Some years ago, being aware of foreign tourists’ growing demands of enjoying Vietnamese Tet, Saigontourist opened its tours “Foreigners enjoy Vietnamese Tet” and as a result, each year, such a tour welcomes a large number of tourists.
Noteworthily, many tourists gave good feedbacks after joining the tour. Harald, a Dutch tourist who experienced the tour for the first time in 2013 said that he did love the custom of presenting lucky money, which brought luck to the recipients on first days of the year and made him feel like home. “I am happy receiving the lucky money”, Harald said.
A French tourist commented that participating in this tour, she got a chance to explore a traditional culture of Vietnamese people. That was going to pagodas on the New Year day to pray for good lucks for the whole year.
Actually, many international friends experiencing Vietnamese traditional Tet confirmed that the Tet of Vietnam is unique with many traditional customs. Besides, Vietnamese people are hospitable; so, they often feel pleased and interested in experiencing Vietnamese Tet.
Vietnamese food conquers tourists
Cuisine is regarded as one of Vietnam’s strength but the tourism sector has not yet fully tapped its potential. Vietnamese food served during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday can conquer even the hard-to-please tourists.
On the Lunar New Year, each Vietnamese family always prepares traditional dishes to offer their ancestors and to pray for a peaceful and lucky new year.
Enjoying Vietnamese dishes on the New Year’s Eve, Tony, a Dutch tourist was so excited. “I like Chung cakes very much. The cake is delicious and rich. I like eating mung bean and pork of the cake the most”, Tony said.
Maria, a British tourist has found out that fried pie is appetizing, different from pork-pies.
Vietnamese traditional Tet always brings new and special experiences to international tourists. Travel agencies forecast the Lunar New Year 2015 will welcome a great number of such tourists to Vietnam.
