Vietnam Architect Association in collaboration with University of Construction in Central Region has recently held a scientific conference with the theme “South Central architecture: Preservation, integration and sustainable development”.

22 speeches were presented at the conference with 4 contents: Identification of South Central traditional architecture; Exploiting South Central traditional architecture for contemporary architecture and introducing to teach to architecture students; Proposingmeasures to preserve the beauty of traditional architecture; Planning Urban in Central South region towards sustainable development. In particular, there were some notable speeches for conservation-oriented development of Phu Yen architecture, like: The leaf roof in Phu Yen-Ecological Architecture-the need for conservation and tourism development; exploiting its own identity in urban construction and development plan of Tuy Hoa city towards sustainable ecology …


At the conference, the delegates also gathered to discuss issues related to training architects nowadays at universities, which focus on architect-training models of University of Construction in Central Region.


Addressing at the conference, PPC Standing Deputy Chairman, Mr. Le Van Truc said that: Currently, Vietnam urban architecture has been tremendous impact from Western countries, so there have been many works of modern architecture intermixing traditional works; many works with hybrid, patchy architecture; Replenishment, the maintenance of ancient buildings, monuments are increasingly difficult. Therefore, this conference is an opportunity for those who have expertise together with finding out characteristics and orientation of urban and rural architecture in South Central region in general, Phu Yen in particular towards preserving traditional architecture but also use it as the motivation for the architecture to constantly develop in the integration trend.
