2 foreigners arrested over fake bank cards in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City police announced on Monday that they have taken into custody two Turkish nationals for allegedly using fake bank cards to withdraw money from cash machines.

Cicer Hakan, 31, and Igdiemkah, 29, were withdrawing money from an ATM booth of HSBC in the city’s backpackers area on Friday night.

Some local police officers saw them, and out of suspicion, they called the bank to check about the transactions.

When the bank said that the foreigners could have used fake cards, the officers took them to a police station for questioning.

The Turkish duo were carrying over VND80 million (US$3,700) and nearly $1,000 in cash along with 15 apparently fake cards.

Police said they confessed to using the cards to withdraw money.

Investigation continues.
