VietJet Air will offer one daily flight connecting the south-central province of Binh Dinh and Hanoi from late April, the no-frills carrier announced Monday.
The new service, the first flight of which is slated for April 26, is being launched to celebrate the expansion of Phu Cat Airport in Quy Nhon, the capital city of Binh Dinh, VietJet Air said in a press release.
Work on the airport expansion project started on Saturday, and the low-cost airline also took advantage of the groundbreaking ceremony to unveil its new air route.
The new Hanoi-Quy Nhon route will open on April 26, but tickets will be available as of January 26, starting at VND699,000 (US$32).
VietJet’s daily promotion, with discounted tickets available every day from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm (Vietnam time) on its website and Facebook page, is also applicable to the new flight.
The one hour and 45 minute flight will take off daily from Hanoi at 10:25 am and land in Quy Nhon at 12:00 noon. The return flight departs at 12:35 pm and arrives at 2:10 pm, according to the airline.
VietJet Air is offering one daily flight between Quy Nhon and Ho Chi Minh City.
The Hanoi service is expected to help boost travel and trade between the city and Vietnamese capital by “offering travelers and businesspeople more travel opportunities than ever before,” the airline said.
“Quy Nhon is one of Vietnam’s best kept secrets — a place of stunning, poetic beauty with a fascinating history and wonderful, welcoming people,” Nguyen Thanh Hung, vice-director of the management board with VietJet, said on Saturday, adding tourists will love to “discover this enchanting destination.”
Hung also expressed his hope that the new flight will help spur business and trade between Hanoi and Quy Nhon.
The Phu Cat airport expansion project, developed by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), includes building a new passenger terminal and expanding the airport apron.
The ACV will earmark VND500 billion ($23.3 million) from its investment and development fund for the project, general director Le Manh Hung said at the groundbreaking ceremony.
The expanded airport will be capable of serving 600 passengers during peak hours, and have a design capacity of handling 1.5 million passengers a year.
The terminal can be further enlarged to receive 2.4 million passengers a year.
The expansion project is scheduled for completion by the Lunar New Year 2016, which is around early February 2016.
