“We are very excited to have Ms Anu here in Vietnam. Not only will we be able to share some of her music with our Vietnamese friends, but it will also be an opportunity for Ms Anu to share with Vietnam something of her unique Torres Strait Island heritage,” Hugh Borrowman, the ambassador of Australia to Vietnam, said in a statement.

Anu, who will stay here until Sunday, is among the most indigenous performers and one of Australia’s most popular recording artists with many awards in music, theater, dancing, cinema and television. She gained popularity with the release of her song “My Island Home” which was performed at the Olympics Sydney in 2000.

Apart from concerts in Vietnam, Anu will join a couple of seminars with music and pedagogy students in Hanoi and visit a charity which supports local women suffering from family violence.

Vietnam and Australia established diplomatic relations on February 26, 1973 and bilateral cooperation has since expanded in various fields such as politics, trade, investment, education, defense and development aid.
