Mr. Duong Quang Que, 78, a gardener in Da Lat who plants this lemon variety, said the species originates from Thanh Hoa province. He bought one tree 10 years ago and now owns a garden.

Que’s lemon trees yield lemons of 2-3kg each on average and some fruits are up to 6 kg in weight. Each mature tree can produce at least 20 lemons.

The lemons are seedless and can be kept for three months.

Besides Que, two other farmers in Da Lat also plant this variety – Mr. Bui Van Sang and Mr. Duong Quang Ky (Que’s younger brother).

Sang said last week he sold more than 20 giant lemons at the prices of VND300,000 ($15) to traders in HCM City and Vinh Long.

Sang, Que and Ky said that all of the lemons in their garden had been booked in advance. To meet market demand, they all plan to expand their lemon gardens.
