NDO – The Government Committee for Religious Affairs needs to strengthen State management of religious activities as well as inspect and supervise the implementation of policies and laws of relative religions.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the request whilst chairing a conference to review the performance of State management regarding religious affairs in 2014 and evaluate the results of the 10-year implementation of Resolutions of the 7th plenum of the 9th Party Central Committee on religious affairs (2003–2013 period).

According to the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, the religious situation in Vietnam was essentially stable in 2014. The major religious festivals, congresses, conferences and activities were held solemnly, attracting numerous followers and people, creating confidence in the Party’s and State’s policies of respecting and protecting freedom of religion.

The State created favourable conditions for religious organisations whilst the organisations actively joined social activities, contributing significantly to national construction and defence.

The State management agencies of religions at all levels strengthened their management, meeting the needs of religions in accordance with regulations of the law and making positive changes in religious life.

The external relation activities related to religions were increased, especially the co-operation with Laos, Cambodia and the Vatican, allowing international friends to become acquainted with the Vietnamese Party’s guidelines and State’s policies and laws on religions as well as the rights to religion and freedom of belief in Vietnam.

Addressing the conference, Deputy PM Phuc urged the Government Committee for Religious Affairs to effectively implement the Ordinance on Belief and Religion and other laws on the religious work.

The Deputy PM asked the Committee to complete the project ‘Strengthening religious unity and overall policies on belief and religion in Vietnam’ which will be implemented to serve the Party and State’s building of religion-related guidelines, policies and laws, and contributing significantly to reinforcing the alliance of national unity.

The Deputy PM also requested the Committee to focus on ensuring religious security as well as co-ordinating with relevant ministries, branches and localities to resolve the complicated religious problems in specific areas, especially in issuance of land and houses for religious organisations.
