Culture is motivation for nation’s development: Deputy PM

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has stressed that culture has not only laid a firm spiritual foundation for Vietnamese people but also served as a motivation to boost the country’s development.

The Government official made the affirmation at an online conference held simultaneously in Hanoi, Da Nang city and Ho Chi Minh City on January 16 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) to review its operation in 2014 and set tasks for 2015.

While speaking highly of the MoCST efforts and achievements made for the country’s success in 2014, Deputy PM Dam said that the sector’s contributions cannot been seen only visible figures of the number of visitors, tourism revenues or the number of activities to advertise the country’s heritage to the world, but also through its invisible impact on improving people’s spiritual life.

Promoting the role of culture in the context of Vietnam’s international integration process is not only the assigned task of the MoCST but also requires the joint responsibility of the whole society, he stressed.

The Deputy PM expressed his hope that artists, artisans and researchers will promote its creativity and devotion to produce high-quality pieces.

He urged the culture’s sector to design an action plan focusing on utilising all available resources to preserve and enrich the national cultural treasure while drawing further participation of artists and artisans into the work.

The sector was also required to do better in planning and funding for cultural and sports facilities in localities.

According to MoCST Minister Hoang Tuan Anh, in 2015 the Ministry would give priority in realising the National Target Programme on Culture with a focus on preserving and upholding the national cultural heritage, particularly those that have won the UNESCO recognition.

The sector will also make efforts to raise State management on the organisation of festivals and sporting events, art performing activities and tourist businesses.

The ministry has also rolled out guidelines to host a wide range of cultural activities to celebrate major celebrations of the country, as well as to welcome Party congresses at all levels in preparation for the upcoming 12th National Party Congress.
