The Vietnamese delegation pocketed its second gold medal at the 4th Asian Beach Games 2014 in Phuket island, Thailand in the petanque event by Le Thi Thu Mai and Thach Tuan Thanh.

In the mixed event, Vietnamese athletes successfully trounced their Pilipino, Turkmenistan and Malaysian rivals in the qualifying rounds, with the same 13-0 score. They then knocked out SEA Games 27, runner-up Laos in a heart-breaking game (13-12 score) in the group’s top competition, China in the semi-final game, and finally crushed strong rivals from Thailand in the last game.


Also on November 16th, the country won silver in the 60kg-women’s wrestling event by Nguyen Thi Nga.


Meanwhile, Vietnam’s beach footballers triumphed 3-1 over Qatar, entering the quarterfinal round in group A with Thailand.


So far, Vietnamese players have claimed 2 gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze medals, temporarily ranking 9/27 of the total./.
