(VOV) – Kien Giang provincial leaders on October 31 met with local authorities and business representatives from Thailand and Cambodia to discuss measures to bolster trade and tourism cooperation.
At the meeting, Kien Giang signed a memorandum of understanding on tourism and agricultural development cooperation with Thailand’s Trat province, under which the two sides agreed to invest more in air, sea and road infrastructure.
The agreement aimed to connect Kien Giang and the eastern provinces of Thailand including Trat and Chanthaburi to create a market niche for businesses.
As it relates to agriculture, the two provinces allied to cooperate in production of shrimp breeding in Kien Giang and exchange experience in shifting rice cultivation to planting fruits, agricultural corporative models and preservation and consumption of agricultural products.
Le Khac Ghi, Vice Chairman of the Kien Giang provincial People’s Committee, said cooperation would provide a good chance for the two provinces to introduce their special tourism products and form a tourism development zone to lure visitors.
Ghi said he hoped that leaders of Thai and Cambodian provinces would direct relevant agencies to cooperate effectively to accelerate common development in the region.
