HA NOI (VNS) – Vietnamese Grandmaster Le Quang Liem finished fourth with six points at the Spice Cup 2014, which concluded in Missouri in the United States this morning (Ha Noi time).
The 2013 blitz world champion defeated GM Leon Hoyos Manuel of Mexico in the final round to get a total of six points after playing nine rounds.
Nyzhnyk Illya of Ukraine came first with seven points, while Robson Ray and Naroditsky Daniel of the United States were placed second and third respectively, with 6.5 points each.
Two-time Aeroflot Open champion Liem had triumphed in the same event in 2011, but finished in second place in 2012 and ranked third in the 2013 event.
The tournament has a nine-round Swiss System format. The winner walked away with a cash prize of US$5,000, while the first and second runners-up received $2,500 and $1,500 respectively. – VNS
