(VOV) – Art troupes from the Vietnam National Puppetry Theatre debuted Vietnamese folk art water puppetry or “Mua Roi Nuoc” in Yokohama from September 13-14.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Vietnam Ambassador to Japan Doan Xuan Hung expressed delight at the puppetry shows, stating that. the programme will help Japanese people learn more about Vietnam’s unique culture, thus bolstering friendship between the two governments and peoples.
Former Japanese Senator Matsuda Iwao, who has been closely associated with Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange activities, said water puppetry is not only an art form but also the quintessence of wisdom and great efforts by Vietnamese people. He described the water puppetry art as a type of scientific synthesis of the ancient Vietnamese people.
Vietnam-Japan cooperation in economics, education, science and technology and cross cultural exchanges have helped people of both nations deepen their mutual understanding.
Through the water puppetry shows, Japanese audiences can better understand about the Vietnamese people’s aspiration for peace, cultural history, humanism and patriotism, Matsuda Iwao said.
