Vietnamese bodybuilders took three gold and three silver medals at the opening of the 48th Asia Bodybuilding Championships and Congress in Macau on Friday.
The gold medalists were Nguyen Van Lam in the men’s 65kg category (who had claimed a gold at last year Southeast Asian Games), Dinh Kim Loan in the women’s 49kg category and Tran Thi Cam Tu in under-155 cm fitness.
Pham Van Mach, a former champion in men’s 55kg, won a silver at the Macau championship in men’s 60 kg.
Two other silver medalists included Ton Hoang Khanh Lan in women’s 49kg and Lam Thuy Mi in over-155 cm fitness.
The 48th Asia Bodybuilding Championships and Congress, from August 29-31, attracted about 300 bodybuilders from 19 countries and territories.
Vietnam sent 26 athletes to the competition.
Coach Huynh Anh said the Vietnamese contenders were carefully selected at a recent national championships in Dong Nai. They expect to take home even more medals as the competition proceeds.
Vietnam claimed ten gold and 11 silver medals when it hosted the competition last year.
