The administration of the southern Binh Phuoc Province censured a senior official for his involvement in the selling of prime real estate to a private company for much less than its actual value.
Nguyen Hoang Hung, director of the province’s construction department, was officially rebuked for his failure to consult the provincial People’s Committee, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported.
Hung was involved in the selling of 6,275 square meters (1.55 acres) of land registered to the Binh Phuoc Television Station to the Binh Phuoc Construction Company for the development of a residential area.
The land was sold directly to the company without being put up for public bid, as required by law.
The plot sold for VND1.5 million per square meter–roughly four times less than the actual value of VND6 million calculated by the province’s finance department.
Binh Phuoc investigators identified 13 former senior officials as responsible for the sale, Cong An Nhan Dan (People’s Police) newspaper reported.
In March 2013, the mayor of Binh Phuoc was also sacked for mismanagement.
Truong Tan Thieu, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, was found to have repeatedly violated managerial protocols, dereliction of duty, and participating in several illegal allocations of public land, Vietnam News Agency reported.
Binh Phuoc, located about 123km north of Ho Chi Minh City, is one of the most agriculturally
productive provinces in Vietnam.
