Vietnam sees lowest jobless rate in second half of 2014
Vietnam’s overall unemployment rate stood at 1.84 percent in early July 2014, the lowest within the previous 12 months, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs reported Wednesday.
The ministry released the good news at a press conference held in Hanoi yesterday to issue a report that provides the latest information related to the labor market in Vietnam.
By the end of June this year, the country had 871,800 people, including 393,000 women, in the working age that were out of work, the report said.
In Vietnam, the working age starts from 15 to 60 for men and 15 to 55 for women.
Compared to the first quarter, the number of unemployed in the second one dropped by 174,000 people.
As a result, the overall unemployment rate of the country was posted at 1.84 percent on July 1, the lowest for the 12 months before that date, the ministry said.
Compared to the first quarter, the second one saw the number of unemployed people who were unskilled workers in the second quarter reduced by 108,000.
Meanwhile, the numbers of jobless among those graduated from 2-year vocational colleges and from universities decreased by 17,100 and 15,400 respectively.
Labor experts attributed the reduced unemployment rate to more jobs generated in the second half of this year and the better match between the supply and demand on the labor market.
Experts forecast that the demand for labors will strongly increase in the last month of this year, especially in the fields of processing and manufacturing industries, electricity and gas production and distribution, information and communications, heath, and social welfare.
Meanwhile, the numbers of employees in the fields of finance banking and insurance are foreseen to continue to drop in the last months of the year.
Improving the quality of employees to meet the requirements of the national economy remains a big challenge to labor managers, trainers and providers in the coming time, experts said.
