(VOV) – National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has been forced to cancel flights from Ho Chi Minh City to France as French pilots kicked off a two-week strike from September 16-28.
Four flights from Paris to HCM City were cancelled on September 16, 18, 25 and 27 and five others from HCMC to Paris were also scrapped on September 17, 19, 22, 26 and 28.
In addition, a number of flights have been delayed for 24 hours.
According to Vietnam Airlines, about 1,000 passengers have been adversely affected.
Air France pilot‘s unions called for the strike after the carrier announced a plan to revamp its operations and transfer much of its European operations to low cost carriers.
Each day, the airlines’ losses are estimated at US$19-25 million.
