Thirteen people were admitted to a local hospital with severe burns early Wednesday morning after a fierce blaze consumed a popular Hanoi bar just minutes before midnight on Tuesday.

Doctor Nguyen Thong, the head of Xanh Pon (Saint Paul) Hospital’s Burn Department, told Thanh Nien Online that 9 of the 13 victims were still receiving special treatment for severe burns.

According to Thong, most of the hospitalized victims suffered internal injuries to their lungs caused by smoke inhalation

“Among the 9 being treated at the Burn department, is a 23-year old male patient whose case is the most severe we have seen. He suffered burns to his internal organs, which makes treatment more difficult, though he has recovered from the most critical situation,” said Thong.

Thong added that the severe cases remain in critical condition and that severe burn cases can quickly develop extreme complications.
