(VOVworld)- Ca Tru folk singing is an art genre that is fascinating for both artists and audience. Recently, Ca Tru is becoming become popular with younger people. Ca Tru singing clubs now have more young artists. Some of them as young as 11 years old but have already revealed some singing talent. These young artists are the ones who will preserve and promote this art genre in the future.

In 1999 senior artist Ngo Trong Binh joined the in Bich Cau Ca Tru Singing Club of artist Le Thi Bach Van after a signing cancer spanning nearly. Since 1999, he has patiently and enthusiastically practiced Ca Tru with an aim of preserving this art genre and promoting it among younger generations. A few years ago, he set up a Ca Tru singing club in Thanh Hoa to teach Ca Tru to younger people. His club has participated in several Ca Tru festivals and won a number of awards. The 85-year old artist says he hopes that younger people will continue to embrace this art genre: “My singing career has been closely associated with my life. I have taught people in my village to sing Ca Tru. I try to preserve and promote Ca Tru. My club members are merchants, drivers and many others. It’s difficult for us to get together, but we have managed to maintain our activities to pursue our passion”.



In recent years, Ca Tru festivals have attracted a number of teenaged singers. Each club has 3 or 4 teenaged singers, whose singing talent is highly praised by senior artists and audiences. 13-year-old Nguyen Thi Thanh Dung is a member of a Ca Tru club in Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh province. She is learning singing from senior Nguyen Thi Thiep and now she can perform two Ca Tru songs: “I study at school during weekdays. I attend the club only on Monday and practice singing 1 to 2 hours. It’s very difficult to learn and master one song. I have to rewrite the lyrics and listen to the song several times until I understand it. If I find the song interesting, I learn the song more easily”.


The number of Ca Tru lovers is growing and so is the number of Ca Tru clubs. Professor To Ngoc Thanh, President of the Vietnam Folk Arts Association says that though it takes time and effort for young artists to learn to sing and play, music but they are very passionate about this art. This bodes well for the revival of Ca Tru. Professor Thanh said:“I have proposed removing Ca TRu from the list of heritages in urgent need of safeguarding because at these festivals we see the participation of more than more young singers. This shows that we don’t have to be worried about safeguarding Ca Tru. The art has revived. This is a very good sign”.

On stage, the artists, from 4 to 87 years old, harmonize their singing with the musical background. Senior artists spare no effort to train and inspire younger generations in the hope that Ca Tru folk singing will be further preserved and promoted.
