After more than a year of crop failure, over the past week, jellyfish began to re-appear in O Loan lagoon area (Tuy An district), creating opportunities for fishermen residing near the lagoon to earn substantial income.
Due to unseasonally appearing, jellyfish size and weight this year is not as large as that of the past years, only 7 units to 12 units for a kilogram. However, thanks to highly dense appearance, jellyfish-mining production in recent times has been high. On average, each fisherman household catches from 30kg to 40kg every night; especially, some fishermen catching over 1 quintal of fresh jellyfish. Jellyfish’s small-size has helped fishermen, after catching and processing sell the whole jellyfish, not only the legs. Therefore, the jellyfish-consuming market price has now been only from 20,000 dongs to 25,000 dongs/kg.
