Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on July 30 approved a proposal on building the Tokyo Vietnam University of Medicine in the northern province of Hung Yen, which will operate in the model of a foreign-invested and non-profit university.

To be invested by Japan’s Waseda Health Science Education Corporation and some Japanese organisations and individuals, the university will offer four-year courses in rehabilitation nursing, physical therapy, orthopedic equipment and artificial legs and arms, along with three-year courses in nursing and medical testing.

In addition, it will also implement scientific research and provide education support services.

With a total investment of more than 421 billion VND (20 million USD), the university will be built on an area of about 30 hectares and is expected to become operational two years after getting investment licence. After four years of operating, the university is projected to have 1,200 students and 80 lecturers.

PM Dung also assigned the Ministry of Ministry of Education and Training to work with Ministry of Planning and Investment and the People’s Committee of Hung Yen to guide the investors in carrying out the project.-VNA
