Farmers in Tra Vinh receive GlobalGAP fish-raising certificates

Nhan Dan – A collective of four members raising Tra fish in Tra Vinh province received GlobalGAP certificates from the Tra Vinh Provincial Fisheries Association on August 8.

This is the first small-scale Tra fish farming collective that has been recognised as meeting the standard.

The recognition resulted from a sustainable Tra fish supply chain programme which has been implemented in the Mekong Delta provinces of Tien Giang, Dong Thap and Tra Vinh, funded by the German Society for International Co-operation (GIZ), World Wildlife Fund, the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), GlobalGAP in Europe and the Netherland’s ANOVA Seafood Company.

The programme aims to help farmers and food producers to operate in line with internationally standardised requirements in producing and trading Tra fish sustainably.

The programme was implemented in Tra Vinh in 16 households in Cau Ke and Tieu Can districts from March 2011 to January 2014 with a total support fund of VND1.9 billion (US$89,000).
