— The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has withdrawn the licenses of two Vietnam Airlines pilots after they mistakenly lowered the altitude of their plane to that of a VietJet Air aircraft traveling in the opposite direction, causing a near miss on August 7.
— Vietnam’s sex ratio at birth is estimated at 114 boys to 100 girls in the first half of this year, according to the Ministry of Health.
— The Vietnamese Ministry of Health organized a conference on coping with the deadly Ebola virus in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday.

— A Chinese contractor has suspended its construction work at a hydropower plant in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum since May 25 as the Vietnamese developer refused to provide them with extra funding after five years of building the facility.

— Vietnam will clash with hosts Brunei in their fourth group-stage game at the 2014 Southeast Asian U-22 Football Championship on Friday at 7:15 pm (Vietnam time). After three matches, Vietnam rank second after Malaysia in Group B, which also includes Cambodia, defending champions and hosts Brunei, Indonesia, and Singapore.
— V-League club Hoang Anh Gia Lai have fired their Korean manager Choi Yoon Gyum following a disappointing season. Choi led Hoang Anh Gia Lai to the ninth place in the 2014 season, the lowest in the club’s history in V-League, Vietnam’s top-flight football (soccer) tournament.

— Ho Chi Minh City is facing a shortage of thousands of teachers for K-12 schools in the 2014-2015 academic year which will officially kick off in early September, educators complained at a conference organized by the Department of Education and Training on Thursday.
