The exhibition introduces 187 art works by 184 artists from the nine separate Literature and Arts Associations of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Binh, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces.
The displayed works created with; oils, lacquers, silks, acrylics, carved paint and synthetic paint, together with sculpture of wood, stone, metal and composites, depict the diverse human life of groups living in highlands and coastal region. They also features sea and islands in a different light, contributing to national defence and showing the artists’ responsibility as soldiers in the ideological and cultural front.
According to Tran Khanh Chuong, President of Vietnam’s Fine Arts Association, the diversity of themes and materials and the number of works in the exhibition reflect the strong development of arts in the southern central and highlands region.
The event is a festival of visual artists and an opportunity for artists to introduce their new works to the public and exchange experience, Chuong said.
The exhibition’s arts council presented an A prize to the oil painting ‘Con cua bien’ (Sea’s sons) by Tran Quyet Thang from Phu Yen province, a B prize to ‘Nang va gio’ (Sunlight and wind) for a work made from synthetic materials by Nguyen Tan from Dak Lak province and five other honorary prizes for other pieces of art.
The council selected 16 works to be judged for the 2014 prizes from the National Committee of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations.
The exhibition is open to the public until August 25.
