Central Quang Tri province’s People’s Committee and Thailand’s EGAT International Company (EGATi) on July 11 inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in building a thermal power plant in the locality.
The Vietnamese government has approved EGATi as the project investor and developer.
Under the MoU, the Thai firm will invest 1.26 billion USD to construct a 1,200MW thermal power plant on an area of 450 ha in Hai Lang district.
The plant will be built in the form of BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer), and transferred to Vietnam after a 25-year period.
It will include two turbines with the first expected to be operational between 2019-2020 and the second in 2030.
Once operational, the plant will generate 7.25 billion kWh of commercial electricity.
Nguyen Duc Cuong, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the local authorities will work closely with EGATi in implementing the project.
Representatives from the firm affirmed that the project will supply more electricity to Vietnam’s localities as well as connect the country’s power transmission systems to those in other Southeast Asian countries in the coming time.-VNA
