Nhan Dan Online – More than 2,000 Buddhist monks and nuns attended solemn requiems held on July 24 -25 at Son La Prison Cemetery by the Son La provincial Buddhist Sangha, to pray for war heroes and invalids.


The ceremonies were dedicated to those who laid down their lives at Son La prison and local soldiers who sacrificed their youth during the two national wars against the French and the US.


At the events, families of the late soldiers expressed their thanks for the commemoration of the people and local authorities.


Doves were also released at the ceremonies to pray for peace for the country and happiness for the people.


During the anti-French war, Son La prison was known as ‘Hell on Earth‘ where French army detained Vietnamese patriots. More than 1,000 Vietnamese revolutionary soldiers were imprisoned there from 1930 to 1945.
