(VOV) – Police in Dong Da precinct, Hanoi, said they have busted four suspects believed to be part of a VND6 billion online football gambling ring on the eve of the World Cup final game.

The four arrested are Ta Ngoc Hung (born in 1978), Tran Ngoc Tuan (born in 1992), Do Hoang An (born in 1994) and Ngo Quoc Quyen Anh (born in 1995).
Police also seized large quantities of gambling equipment and paraphernalia, including 2 laptops, 2 computer cases, 6 mobile phones and VND30 million in cash.
Law enforcement officials also announced they have gathered evidence linking the suspects to an illegal internet lending scam in which loans were made at usurious interest rates.
In addition to charging exorbitantly high interest on the loans there are various reports of threats and extortion, they said.
Police are continuing their investigation.
Since the World Cup began, police in Dong Da precinct have razed a series of online rings with total illegal betting of thousands of billions of Vietnam dong.
