According to the Prime Minister’s decision, Son assumed the new post on July 8.

The selection of the new chair for PetroVietnam began in mid-June. Son was the only candidate recommended by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to the Prime Minister.

Son was born in 1962, a native of the central province of Ha Tinh. He previously served as the general director of the PetroVietnam Finance Company; Director General of the Ocean Bank; and Deputy General Director of PetroVietnam.

He holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina (USA), a bachelor’s degree in pricing from the University of National Economics and a university diploma from the PetroVietnam Staff Training School.

Earlier, PetroVietnam Chairman Phung Dinh Thuc retired on June 1. Since June 1 to July 7, PetroVietnam General Director Do Van Hau temporarily assumed the chairmanship.

This October, Hau will retire. Currently there is no information about the new PetroVietnam general director.

In March, the group had another deputy general director, Ninh Van Quynh, former chief accountant, and head of PetroVietnam’s Finance and Accounting Department.
