Police in the southern province of Binh Duong are investigating a case in which a drunken foreign man is suspected of attempting to steal a taxi parked near a local supermarket on the weekend.
The foreigner, whose name and other personal details have yet to be announced, was detained on Saturday afternoon by security guards at Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park 1 (VSIP 1) in Thuan An Town.
At 3:00 pm on July 12, Pham Quoc Tien, 44, of central Binh Thuan Province, parked his Mai Linh cab, with license plate #61A-047.70, near Song Than 1 Supermarket in Di An Town.
Tien left his car for a moment to find customers.
When he looked back a minute later, the car was nowhere in sight.
Tien reported the incident to Mai Linh, which responded by asking other employees to help search for the stolen cab.
About 10 minutes later, some of Tien’s colleagues discovered the cab being driven by a foreigner near the VSIP 1, about seven kilometers from the supermarket.
They reported the case to the security guard force of the industrial park, who then helped them stop the cab and seize the man, who was found driving under the influence of alcohol.
The foreigner was then handed over to local police, who detained him for investigation.
When he was arrested, he spoke only two words in Vietnamese: “Hàn Quốc” (South Korea), witnesses said.
