HA NOI (VNS) – Vice chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Quoc Hung has ordered the Ha Noi Sewerage and Drainage Co Ltd to join hands with other agencies to combat the effects of flooding during the ongoing rainy season.
The company was assigned management over the existing drainage on belt road No 3 to discharge water into To Lich River, Hung said at a meeting held last Wednesday.
The vice chairman also said the company would oversee Dong Bong 1 Pumping Station to pump water into Nhue River if torrential rains battered the city.
The Dong Bong 1 Pumping Station, located in Tu Liem District, was designed to release 8 cubic metres of water per second. The belt road runs through eight districts including Cau Giay, Hoang Mai, and Thanh Xuan.
The company was also asked to take prompt action to divert flooding on Nguyen Khuyen Street into the Luong Su Canal if heavy rains continued. The move came after torrential rains hit the city in early June, inundating a number of streets in the city.
The company’s report said the city now had 23 flood ‘black spots’.
Hung also said that the city’s Construction Department needed to co-operate with traffic inspectors to develop plans for flood prevention at crucial black spots in the inner districts and report to the committee.
The department was also considering a proposal to elevate Nguyen Khuyen Street as a solution to combat flooding, he said.
The city’s Green Tree and Park Company also had to chop down trees that were at risk of being uprooted during heavy rains, he said. – VNS
