Community-based tourism hoped to yield sweet fruit

As a world cultural heritage site, Hoi An ancient town in the central province of Quang Nam is seeking to promote tourism in a sustainable manner for the benefit of the community.

Most recently, the city launched a pleasure trip by a unique kind of traditional fishing vessels designed by fishermen in the central coastal area, along the Thu Bon River.

Vacationers have a good chance to visit the Kim Bong woodworking village famous for its carpentry, including shipbuilding.

Sailing down the poetic river, they come to Duy Hai fishing village to explore the culture and daily activities of inhabitants.

As the boat is anchored inTra Nhieu village, holiday-makers are able to experience rowing and enjoy various kinds of seafood and have an insight of fishing activities there.

Additionally, tourists are also allowed to stay with local families for a true experience of their professions such as weaving and knitting along with traditional folk music.

Hoi An was recognised as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1999.

In 2013, it was ranked first in the world’s top 10 favourite cities by Wanderlust, a well-known British tourism magazine.-VNA
