A new education model introduced by the Ministry of Education and Training has been appreciated at the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Replenishment Pledging Conference held in Brussels on June 25-28.
The World Bank-funded Vietnam Escuela Nueva project has been applied at 1,447 schools across the country. It enables children, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to learn in an independent and creative way and develop problem-solving skills, said Pham Ngoc Dinh, director of the project.
Attending the conference, Minister Pham Vu Luan said that the event creates a good chance for the Vietnamese delegation to seek global assistance in pedagogical renovation.
Vietnam pledges to increase the State budget for the field to improve the quality of the teaching staff and ensure gender parity, he said, adding that the country will spend a regular amount of money on maintaining an education management information system.
Jointly organised by the GPE organisation and the European Unions (EU), the four-day event aims to call for sponsors’ contribution to the establishment of a financial system in the 2015-2018 period and ensure a quality education for all.
As part of the conference, European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs announced a new EU aid package worth 375 million EUR (510 million USD) for schooling in nearly 60 countries having relations with the GPE.-VNA
