The “Ca tru (northern ceremonial singing) – An intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection” stamp set, including three stamp samples and a block of stamps, was released with the aim of promoting “Ca tru.”

Each 43 x 32 mm stamp, featuring the logo of world cultural heritage and designed by Vietnamese artist Nguyen Du and a group of painters from Vietnam Post, portrays typical performance styles of “Ca tru” during the feudal colonial regime.

The “Ca tru” set is the third stamp set released this year, along with “Ech cay” (The tree frog) and “Ky niem 60 nam chien thang Dien Bien Phu) (The 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory) which were published on April 1 and May 5, respectively.

Another stamp set expected to be released in 2014 is “Ky niem 100 nam ngay sinh Dai tuong Nguyen Chi Thanh” (The 100th anniversary of General Nguyen Chi Thanh’s birth).

“Ca tru,” also known as “hat a dao” or “hat noi,” is an ancient genre of chamber music featuring female vocalists that originated in northern Vietnam.

This genre of traditional Vietnamese music was inscribed on the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in 2009.
