The Vietnam Tourism Association inaugurated its office in Tokyo on Wednesday.
The branch will be the first such office that Vietnam has ever established abroad, news website VnExpress reported, and will provide official information and promote Vietnamese tourism.
The office is expected to help Vietnam achieve its target of welcoming one million Japanese tourists annually in the next few years.
Japan was Vietnam’s third largest inbound tourism market; the country welcomed 600,000 Japanese last year.
In the meantime, Vietnam sent over 85,000 tourists to Japan last year, an increase of 55 percent year on year.
