A traditional music festival has begun in the Central Highlands city of Da Lat, gathering more than 20 groups who will give hundreds of performances.
The festival kicked off on Tuesday and features over 500 artists from 25 groups from across the country, including the Vietnam Cheo Theater, the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, and the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
The artists are scheduled to showcase around 160 performances in various Vietnamese traditional musical styles, including “cai luong” (traditional southern music and performance), “ca tru” (northern ceremonial singing) and “cheo” (northern traditional music and stage performance).
Vuong Duy Bien, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the event is organized within the framework of the 2014 Tay Nguyen – Da Lat Tourism Year, and aims to maintain and promote the beauty of Vietnamese culture and showcase traditional Vietnamese musical instruments.
The festival will last until Sunday and is open for free to both Vietnamese and foreign visitors.
