Over VND11 billion raised for archipelago soldiers and fishermen

Nhan Dan Online – Ho Chi Minh City’s Labour Union received over VND 11.5 billion on June 28 at a ceremony to respond to a programme called ‘Nghia Tinh Hoang Sa – Truong Sa’ (Sentimental Attachment to Hoang Sa and Truong Sa).

The amount was raised by 112 businesses, unions at grassroots levels and benefactors.

The programme was organised to raise public interest and support for local islanders, fishermen and armed forces on the waters of Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagoes.

The Ho Chi Minh City’s Labour Union is expected to visit and present gifts to the Vietnam Coast Guard, fisheries surveillance forces and fishermen in Quang Ngai province.

The ‘Nghia Tinh Hoang Sa -Truong Sa’ programme was launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and the ‘Golden Heart’ Fund of Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper.

Through the programme, the VGCL called on its staff to send text messages, each worth VND14,000 to support maritime police and fisheries surveillance forces protecting national sovereignty over seas and islands.
