A national beauty contest kicked off early this month and will last until early December, the organizer announced at a press conference held in the capital city of Hanoi on June 4.
The Miss Vietnam 2014 pageant, a national beauty contest which aims to honor the inner and outer beauty of Vietnamese women and promote the country’s culture as well as its people, is running from June 4 to December 6.
Vietnamese beauties ages 18 to 27 interested in the contest can submit their applications at the offices of Tien Phong newspaper in Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Central Highlands from June 4 until October 15.
The preliminary round will take place in Hanoi, HCMC and the southern province of Bac Lieu from November 1 to 15 while the finale will be held at Phu Quoc Island’s Vinpearl Resort in the southern Vietnamese province of Kien Giang from November 26 to December 6, during which the finalists will take part in numerous social and charitable activities.
Besides upholding the same regulations from previous years, Miss Vietnam 2014 will tighten its rules in terms of contestants’ marital status–beauties are required to be single.
The contest has also decreased its minimum height requirement to 1.62m from 1.65m, allowing more women to apply with the aim of an increase in submissions.
The winner will receive a crown and VND300 million (US$14,150) while the first runner-up and second runner-up will be presented with VND150 million ($7,000) and VND100 million ($4,700), respectively.
Additional titles include Miss Talent, Miss Beach, Miss Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditional dress), Miss Beautiful Face and Miss People’s Choice, the winners of which will receive VND30 million ($1,400).
This year, the biennial contest is jointly organized by Tien Phong newspaper and the People’s Committee of Kien Giang with the support of Tien Phong Joint Stock Company, HCMC’s Golden Lotus Construction and Investment Joint Stock Company and Vinpearl Joint Stock Company.
Dang Thu Thao, from the southern province of Bac Lieu, claimed the Miss Vietnam 2012 title after captivating the heart of the judges and audience with her natural beauty during the final held at Tien Son Sports Palace in the central city of Da Nang on August 25.
Duong Tu Anh and Do Hoang Anh, both of whom hail from Hanoi, are first and second runners-up.
Hanoi beauty Dang Thi Ngoc Han won the crown in 2010.
