Ministry affirms high litchi consumption

Consumption of litchi has been quite advantageous in both domestic and export markets, informed the Ministry of Industry and Trade on June 27.

The fruit has entered peak harvest season in the northern province of Hai Duong, Bac Giang and Hung Yen.



Litchi consumption output reached 61,800 tons on June 20. Of these, 24,900 tons were exported to China via border gates in Lao Cai and Lang Son Provinces at VND8,500-18,000 per kilogram, yielding US$13.8 million in revenue.


About 1,700 tons of fresh litchi has been transported across the border to Yunnan Province, China a single day.


Thieu litchi output is expected to approximate 190,000 tons this year, up 13.6 percent over last year. Domestic consumption accounts for 60 percent and exports occupy 40 percent.


Litchi prices have been in rock-bottom condition for the last one week as per reports by the media.
