The Danish Embassy in Vietnam and the Denmark-Vietnam Cultural Development and Exchange Fund (CDEF) have recently kicked off the annual Talent Prize Competition, which is a photo contest on climatic change.
Professional and amateur photographers in Vietnam aged 18 to 13 are all eligible to join the competition, “Bien Doi Khi Hau Qua Anh” (Climate Change in Photography).
The contest, which runs until August 29, aims to explore how climatic change and other environmental issues and their consequences are perceived and expressed in photography.
The jury comprises freelance photographer and World Press Photo winner Maika Elan, Chief Photography Editor of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper Nguyen Hoai Linh, and famed Danish photographer/judge Michael Daugaard.
Competing works must be submitted to tainangnhiepanh@gmail.com, or sent by airmail to the Danish Embassy office at 19 Dien Bien Phu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi, from now to August 29.
The jury will pick between 60 and 80 photos to put on exhibit in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in late October.
Prizes include one Grand Prize (selected by the jury), worth US$2,500; one Smart Phone Prize (the best photo taken with a smart phone), VND6 million ($283); and one People’s Choice Prize (the most popular photo voted online), also VND6 million.

One of the CDEF’s principal objectives over the past few years is to provide support for contemporary artists in Vietnam. Funds are each year earmarked for the Talent Prize, which is bestowed on an outstanding young Vietnamese artist in a specific art area.
Some of the areas which the prize has targeted during the last few years are contemporary dance, performing arts, painting, and architecture.
In the 2013 Talent Prize Competition, themed “Architectural Ideas for Improving Urban Spaces,” the winner won a study trip to Denmark with all expenses covered.
