Ceremony thanks regular blood donors

HA NOI (VNS)— One hundred regular blood donors from across the country will be honoured for their contributions to humanitarian aid at a ceremony in Ha Noi on Saturday.

The event is part of a series of activities organised by the National Steering Committee for Voluntarily Blood Donation Mobilisation to mark World Blood Donor Day on June 14.

Around 2,600 people donate blood every day in Viet Nam.

With the theme “Safe blood for saving mothers,” the day aims at increasing awareness on why access to safe blood is essential for the prevention of maternal deaths.

Every day, about 800 women die because of pregnancy- or childbirth-related complications globally, according to the World Health Organisation. — VNS
