(Cinet) – The Vietnam Writers’ Association (VWA) officially launched a translation centre to introduce a website of Vietnamese literature in English version in Hanoi on May 26 with an aim of promoting Vietnamese literature abroad.
The centre will give a main task of translating Vietnamese literary works into foreign languages and help a nurture a contingent of translators and relations with foreign writers’ associations, all towards the goal of helping world readers better know about Vietnamese unique culture besides its heroic wars for national independence and freedom.
In the future, the centre will try to promote Vietnam’s literature to international friends, and introduce international literature to Vietnamese readers and strengthen co-operation with other writers’ associations around the world, and gather outstanding translators across the country to introduce Vietnamese literature to the world.
A book themed ‘Vietnamese Literature Translators‘ published in 2002 by the association’s Translation Council in co-operation with the East-West Culture Centre noted that Vietnam has had about 300 prominent translators from the 14th century until the late 20th century.
Ealier, some translated literatures including foreign literature translated into Vietnamese have made a contribution to cultural exchange and international integration.
