The People’s Committee of northern Thanh Hoa Province and a Vietnamese group broke ground on a VND1.2 trillion (US$57 million) golf course and international-standard resort project on Sunday.
Located at Sam Son, one of Thanh Hoa’s most well-known beaches, it is considered the province’s biggest tourism infrastructure investment project thus far.
The 18-hole course was designed by American firm Nicklaus, which has already engineered nearly 400 golf courses in 36 different countries.
The project is slated to be completed within ten months from now in order to welcome the National Tourism Year, whose activities will be organized in Thanh Hoa in 2015.
Besides the $57 million project, the Vietnamese firm will also pour VND4.3 trillion ($204 million) into a culture – tourism complex and a five-star resort which will be built next to the golf course.
With a total area of over 340 hectares, the facilities will together form an entertainment center and luxury resort with such components as restaurants and bars, indoor and outdoor recreational spaces, pools, hotels, and villas.
FLC’s plans, worth VND5.5 trillion ($261 million) in total, is expected to turn Sam Son in particular and Thanh Hoa in general into an attractive tourism hub of Vietnam’s north central and northern regions.
The firm will also channel approximately $1 billion into other projects in Thanh Hoa including hotels, villas, and public services areas, which will be developed within the next five years.
