Nhan Dan Online – More than 400 historical photos, documents and artifacts on Dien Bien Phu victory are on display at a thematic exhibition which kicked off at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) in Hanoi yesterday.
Entitled ‘Dien Bien Phu – Historical Rendezvous’, the five-part exhibition highlights the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap and the High Command of the Vietnam People’s Army as well as the great contributions of people from all strata to the success of the Dien Bien Phu campaign.
The first part features maps, diagrams, photos, documents and memoirs of both French and Vietnamese soldiers. Visitors will have a chance to understand the important political position of Dien Bien Phu in the resistance war of not only Vietnamese people, but also of the three Indochinese countries against French colonialism.
The second part, themed ‘Dien Bien Phu – Strategic Battle’ reflects the strength of the national unity bloc and the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam’s People Army, which helped the country gain successes during the national construction and defence.
Meanwhile, the third part features the life and career of Vo Nguyen Giap, a talented general who devoted his whole life to the struggle for national independence and post-war national construction.
Among objects on display are photos introducing the practical activities of young Vietnamese people during the Dien Bien Phu campaign, as well as the national construction and defence in the modern period.
The last section of the exhibition displays dozens of books, articles and memoirs written by General Giap himself, along with hundreds of books on the General and Dien Bien Phu campaign by domestic and foreign writers.
In addition to the USSH showing, the exhibits will also be showcased at Hanoi National University and Thang Long University until May 18.
