Nhan Dan Online – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has stressed the need to tap the tourism potential of the Northwest region at a conference on integrated tourism development in the Northwest region held in Dien Bien Phu city on May 6.



Held jointly by the Steering Committee for the Northwestern region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee, the conference attracted the participation of representatives from the diplomatic corps of 40 countries and international organisations, along with representatives from provinces, cities, ministries and branches in Vietnam.


Addressing the conference, Deputy PM Phuc underscored the importance of promoting the tourism potentials of the northern midland and the mountainous region as well as those of the Northwest region, which is home to many historical sites and tourist attractions such as the Dien Bien Phu battlefield relic complex, the Hung Kings Temple, Dong Van karst plateau, Sapa city, Mount Fansipan, the Hoang Lien national park and others.


He noted that the Prime Minister has approved the Strategy for Tourism Development by 2020, with a vision to 2030, in which strengthening regional connectivity to promote tourism is among the top priorities.


The deputy PM also expressed his hope that the conference would propose practical initiatives in order to further promote regional tourism.


At the conference, participants underlined the potential and strength of regional tourism while discussing its sustainable development.


They said that regional localities should focus on upgrading the infrastructure of cultural relic sites, as well as improving service quality and diversifying products to serve tourists.
