On May 26, the Vietnam Writers’ Association held a ceremony to launch the Center for Literary Translation. The association will promote Vietnamese literature abroad and translate foreign works of literature to Vietnamese.
The center will introduce Vietnamese literary works on Lotus magazine of the Asian-African Writers’ Association and open a website of Vietnam’s literary works in English.
Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, who is Vice president of the Vietnam Writers’ Association, will be director of the center.
Addressing the opening ceremony, president of the Vietnam Writers’ Association – poet Huu Thinh said that the establishment of the center started from practical requirements. A major goal of the center is to professionalize the translation of Vietnamese literature at present. The introduction of Vietnamese literature to the world is an important way to popularize Vietnamese culture, imagery, land and people to international friends.
Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu said “We’ll cooperate with foreign publishing houses and introduce them to Vietnamese literature so that they will understand the need to translate and introduce Vietnamese literature to people in their countries”.
